ABOUT CAMRYN

Art is truly a way to translate things that have no words. When I create a painting, my purpose is to tell a story about the beauty and complexity of living by using colors and brushstrokes. My work can be interpreted as abstract, but to me it's a bit like lightning in a bottle: capturing certain extraordinary or profound memories and feelings on canvas.

My art is a conversation without words and a dedication to my deep love of nature and the wonderment of exploring all life offers.

I've had a mad love affair with the arts since I was young, and I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't fully immersed in something creative. I learned how to play piano before even learning how to read or write, and grew up learning art from my father and his father before him. Consequently, I've always considered the arts as my first language. I received dual degrees in piano performance and music composition, and elements of music are often found in my paintings as inspiration for feeling, form, and function. Flowing energy is always a strong theme, whether it's the energy of nature or natural disasters like falling in love.

I'm a freelance artist living and working predominantly in Washington, DC., although I frequently travel all over the world. This deep love of exploring and -for unabashedly experiencing the wonder of it all---even the difficulties of life---is often featured in my work. What I love most about abstract art is that it can be deceptively simple, but it's actually incredibly complexed and layered, just like life.
